Nowhere Boy

Yes! I've been waiting and waiting for this but finally there's a trailer of Nowhere Boy! This is a movie about the rise of the Beatles, focusing on John Lennon. Especially about Lennon's teenage years and his first steps to stardom and will focus on the influence his Aunt Mimi and his mother Julia had on his early life, and his friendship with future fellow Beatle Paul McCartney. The British actor Aaron Johnson will play Lennon and that Thomas Sangster will play Paul McCartney. I absolutely adore Thomas Sangster, he's the reason I heard about this movie in the first place. Kristen Scott Thomas will be playing Lennon's (step)mother.

Its premiere was 29 october in the UK on the London Filmfestival, and it got great reviews! Unfortunately for us poor Dutch people it won't be in Dutch cinemas until april 1st. But it's better than the USA, cause it'll never be in cinemas over there, so sorry folks!

Watch the trailer here:
P.S. I love the glasses John Lennon is wearing!

The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee

Plot: From all outward appearances, Pippa Lee (Robin Wright Penn) leads a charmed existence. She is the devoted wife of an accomplished publisher (Alan Arkin) thirty years her senior, the proud mother of two grown children, and a trusted friend and confidant to all who cross her path. But as Pippa dutifully follows her husband to a new life in a staid Connecticut retirement community, her idyllic world and the persona she has built over the course of her marriage will be put to the ultimate test.

In truth, looks are deceiving, and this picture-perfect woman has seen more than her fair share of turmoil in her youth. Embarking on a bittersweet journey of self-discovery, accompanied by a new, strange and soulful acquaintance (Keanu Reeves), Pippa must now confront both her volatile past and the hidden resentment of her seemingly perfect life in order to find her true sense of self.

It stars Golden Globe nominee Robin Wright Penn and Academy Award winner Alan Arkin who are supported by an all-star cast including Blake Lively as the young Pippa Lee, Maria Bello as her mother, Suky Sarkissian, Keanu Reeves as Pippa's inscrutable neighbor, Chris Nadeau, Monica Bellucci as the socialite Gigi Lee, triple Academy Award® nominee Julianne Moore as the freewheeling Kat, and Academy Award® nominee and Golden Globe winner Winona Ryder as Pippa's trusted friend, Sandra Dulles.

Center Stage: Turn it up

I had a dance-movie-marathon with one of my friends last night. Since there are only few dance movies left that we haven't seen, we decided to rent 'Honey' with Jessica Alba. Unfortunately, this particular dvd was nowhere to be found. We came along another -rather unknown- one called 'Center Stage: Turn it up' and decided to go with that one.
Story: All self-taught dancer Kate Parker has ever wanted to do was perform with the American Academy of Ballet (ABA). She didn't get in however after auditioning. So she looks for a job and with the help of male dancer named Tommy who díd get in at the ABA gets one in a hip-hop club after showing her own hip-hop skills. Together with his and her sisters help she may just find the passion she needs to make her dreams come true.

It wasn't a bad  movie, it had some laughter and Rachel Brooke Smith, who plays Kate, did a pretty good job, seeing that this was her very first acting job. My friend and I had a disagreement over her love interest in the movie, she was very pro-Tommy, but he had an earring and his character was a too-good-a-guy, whilst he didn't look as a good guy and just didn't came over like one. So I thought she should end up with one of the ABA's teachers (a young one, don't worry) who was very nice and also quite good looking. We made a comparison between these guys and the guys from Pride and Prejudice. I said Tommy was Wickham, the attractive seemingly good guy but is just not right for her on the inside and the teacher being Darcy, cause she couldn't stand him at first.

I'm straying off. Let's talk about the music. The music was great, it really was a great soundtrack. The dancing: pretty much every actor are clearly great dancers rather than expierenced actors. So the dancing was very good. There was plenty of chemistry between the lead couple's relationship, they were very natural with each other.

Watch it with friends.

This was the guy I was rooting for...

...whilst my friend was rooting for this guy:
(and it became this one)

New Moon Featurette The Wolf Pack

There's a new moon featurette online that focuses on creating the wolf pack. Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and other cast members talk about the wolves in new moon. This movie is way more wolf than vampire, which is great, cause I like Taylor better than Robert.

Frank's Spoiled Movie Endings

This is the most sacred website of all!
On Frank's Spoiled Movie Endings you can use the list of movies to select a film that you like to know how it ends. Just for when you want to know who lives, dies and gets shot.

I use it all the time. The minute I think a movie I'm watching is about to get sad, I check with Frank. Even if you're one of those people who is 'mature' and able to deal with sad endings, this is still a site to check out. Cause to me Frank seems like a really nice guy -except for the fact that he picked Josh Brolin in Milk as his Oscar Pick this year, when we all knew it would be Heath Ledger. Look at his other Oscar Picks.

He even has a list with movies to avoid.

You can even spoil a couple yourself ;)

Keira Knightley is a Fair Lady

Keira Knightley has won herself the rol of Eliza Doolittle in the remake of My Fair Lady. She will be re-teaming with Joe Wright, with whom she has made Atonement and Pride and Prejudice. But My Fair Lady is a musical, and I have yet to hear Keira's vocals. She has been reportedly taking singing lessons and so winning the rol from Scarlett Johansson.

I'm not a great fan of remakes. Especially not if it's a remake of a movie with Audrey Hepburn. Keira is a fine actress, but she isn't Audrey. So I have yet to decide if I want to watch this particular remake. If someone does and it turns out great, please comment.

Mamma Mia 2

Mammia Mia was a huge Hollywood succes and now there's talking of making a part 2. Amanda Seyfried has already stated that she would up to play Sophie again in Mamma Mia 2.

Cinema Blend says:
"There seems to be some confusion among the movie’s cast as to exactly what songs they’ll be singing in the next film. Last month Colin Firth said here that they’d be picking a new band to provide the sequel’s lyrics but Seyfried insists, “I know it’s still going to be Abba music, because what else would it be. Come on, I wouldn’t do Mamma Mia 2 without Benny and Bjorn.”

I loved Mamma Mia and it made tons of money so why not do a sequel?

Even Meryl Streep would not mind to reappear as a "Grand Mamma Mia", but only if they can get all three guys back to resume their parts.

Beware, it is not set in stone yet, everything is speculation. But with nothing final yet, one thing everyone agrees on is that there are plenty of ABBA songs left to fuel a second installment... and enough directions for the plot.

Colin Firth
"Well, Benny has put the kibosh on the ABBA thing. I don’t know if you read that. Benny Anderson was public - quoting what I read in a newspaper - but he said it’s not going to happen with ABBA. We’re not using the back catalogue. He, I think, has other ambitions, probably. The main thing is they’ve used the songs you would need for that musical and using the rest of the catalogue…I don’t know, you’d have to ask him. From what I’m understanding, the people who do want to make it, are considering the possibility of using another bands music. Why not. But that’s speculation, I’ve got no insight on what will really happen."

To my readers

I really hope you noticed that I changed the icon you see on the far left side of the url. Apparently it's called a favoricon and it took me an hour but I figured out how to change it! For the blind ones: it's a tiny tiny picture of a roll of film.

I'll keep on improving my blog but it's hard and it's gonna take time and if any of you bloggers want to try and explain how this whole template thing works, feel free.

So now I say goodbye and let you get back to your reading. There are people reading this aren't there? Anyone...?

Coming up

These are the movies that are coming up... Mind you, I only wrote down movies of which I have written of that I am waiting for. If you want me to put your favorite in this list, please comment.

Rapunzel Rapunzel let down your hair

I just discovered there's a new Disney movie coming out in 2010: Rapunzel.
Its story is gonna be based on the original fairytale of Rapunzel.

The story
is about Rapunzel, who is taken captive by a witch who locks her up in a tower with no door. When the witch wants to come up she cries: "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair" so she can climb up Rapunzel's long blond enchanted hair. One day there's a prince walking by the tower who overhears Rapunzel singing. He tries to climb up, but is unable to do it. When he discovers how the witch climbs up, he tries the same, this time succeeding. He falls in love with Rapunzel and tries to free her. But the witch is going to take revenge when she finds out...
Mandy Moore will record Rapunzel's voice, and Zachary "Chuck" Levi will be voicing Prince Flynn. It will also star the voices of David Schwimmer and John Goodman.
It will be released int the USA on 10 December 2010, so that's still a while away.

Sunshine Cleaning

Rose (Amy Adams) is the dedicated single mom raising Oscar. Oscar is having problems in school, displaying anti-social behavior such as licking his teacher's leg. Oscar requires special schooling, something Rose can't afford with her current cleaning service job. This is a far cry from her glorious cheerleader days. Oh yes, she is having an affair with the former quarterback Mac (jerky good Steve Zahn), who has no intentions of leaving his wife. Rose's life is broken. At one point she breaks down telling Winston, "I was good at getting guys to want me…" But she can't get them to love her.

Younger sister Norah (Emily Blunt) is the smart ass brazen slacker, who can't hold a job. Norah lives with their Dad Joe (wonderful Alan Arkin). Widower Joe, instead of having a real job, always has some sort of business scheme brewing whether it is selling candy pop corn or moving shrimp in bulk. Arkin restrains Joe's idiosyncrasies enough to provoke our compassion. As it turns out his grandson Oscar is really bright, just a victim of the family weirdness, which is not fatal. Spevack has the right charm to carry this off.

At the urging of Mac and using some of his police detective pull, Rose falls into the biohazard removal and crime scene cleaning niche business. Of course she enrolls Norah into the business as well, after all what else is Norah going to do. Rose forms a close bond with Cleaning Supply Owner Winston (compassionate Clifton Collins), but she is too blind to see that he is a decent man, unlike Mac.

The captivating narrative thread involves Norah's obsession to watch their mother's TV movie appearance, where she plays a waitress. Both Rose and Norah deal with the tragedy of their mother differently. And it is not coincidence that their job deals with death and cleaning up all aspects of the aftermath, the physical and the human. It's hysterical as Norah falls into a bloodied mattress. It is touchingly solemn as Rose sits with the elder widow, whose husband killed himself
. Jeffs reminds us of our humanity throughout. There is a mesmerizing scene as both Rose and Norah watch TV.

I've been wanting to see this movie for a while. It is from the producers of Little Miss Sunshine, and that's one of the movies by which I could not stop laughing. This movie wasn't as funny as LMS, but it definitely had its moments. If you watch it however, you watch it for the acting. That was absolutely terrific in this film. I would watch Amy Adams stare at grass and I've been a fan of Emily Blunt since her early start in the Devil Wears Prada. These two have a very strong chemistry onscreen.

This is a film that doesn't dazzel us with fireworks and glitter, but it has hart. I like that.

Grey's Anatomy: Sweet Surrender

I'm terribly behind on writing a review of the last Grey's Anatomy we (the dutch people) saw. This one was Sweet Surrender.

In the middle of a series of intense treatments, Izzie distracts herself by planning Derek and Meredith's wedding. But the stress of her illness takes its toll on Alex, who freezes during surgery just as George begins to excel. Meanwhile: Callie's father arrives at Seattle Grace, but is less than pleased to meet his daughter's girlfriend...

Well this was the most we've seen of George in ages. No wonder they're cutting him out of show. It was a very funny episode, with Izzie faking her death all the time to get people's attention and Lexie's major chocolate addiction due to the Derek/Mark feud (a play on the actress being pregnant at that time) and Meredith trying on dresses. Those were great distractions from the sadness of Izzie dying. Katherine Heigl does a very good job. Alex was once again amazing, I love this emotional side of his, Owen's finally in therapy, Christina wasn't around that much but that doesn't matter because when she does appear she's so strong. Finally, Bailey. What can I say about her? She's just the best doctor in whole of Seattle Grace. Holding a terminal child in her arms until she dies, persuading the father on the way to take over.

I can't wait for the next episode, I'm sure it's gonna be intense....but I'm ready.

Julie & Julia

Last night I went to see the Julie & Julia in the cinema. I don't know what I was expecting but this movie came to me as a surprise. I loved it. I loved it so much. Meryl Streep's performance was excellent once again. She absolutely nailed all the characteristics from Julia, her enthousiasm was contagious. If you ever watch it think about me when you watch the scene with the onions and the one with the lobster. i shall never forget Amy Adams' face when she had to put living lobsters into boiling water.

Before I start spoiling more fun bits, let me tell you the story. Amy Adams plays Julie who has a crappy job and lives with her husband in a crappy apartment in Queens. Her husband suggests that the starts a blog. So she does, she cook all the 524 recipes from Julia Childs cooking book. While doing that she starts to learn from Julia and her life is looking up again. Meanwhile we follow the real Julia while she starts her own cooking adventure, and we discover similarities between Julie & Julia's life on the way....

I don't know if I have anything to say except that this is a must see for anyone who loves Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, cooking, eating and movies.

Just make sure you have some good food with it, because it's a guarantee that you'll get hungry.

Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep is just the greatest living film actress. She is such a perfectionist in her craft, always preparing endlessly for her roles. The first movie I probably saw her in was The Devil Wears Prada (scandalous I know, but I was young) and I loved her so much that I started seeing more. I wanted to write about her because I bought a new movie yesterday called Postcards From The Edge, when she's starring with Shirley McLaine, a great movie by the way. I can list her best performances, but her problem is that her every performance is superb. Her, in my opinion, best movies (from imdb.com, look there for more)
Julie & Julia
Doubt
Mamma Mia!
The Devil Wears Prada
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
The Manchurian Candidate
The Bridges of Madison County
The River Wild
Postcards from the Edge
Out of Africa
Falling in Love
Sophie's Choice
The French Lieutenant's Woman
Kramer vs. Kramer
Manhattan
The Deer Hunter

Wolf Action in Twilight New Moon

Here's a new clip from the Twilight sequence New Moon. It features some wolves, which are my favorite part of Twilight. My best friend and I cannot understand how Bella can love Edward when she can have Jacob.
Anyway watch it here:

The Box...

While I was flipping through the pages of imdb.com I found this new movie called The Box that's coming out in December. It isn't really my kind of movie and I wouldn't have mentioned it if it hadn't been for James Marsden who is starring. I just adore him! Apparently it's about this couple that receives a box on their doorstep and when opening it they become very wealthy. But withouth realizing it opening the box has also killed someone they don't know....
It also stars Cameron Diaz and Frank Langella and is directed by Richard Kelly.

Have fun!

I always thought Brad Pitt was Robert Redfords lovechild

Amanda Seyfried & Amanda Detmer

Javier Bardem & Jeffrey Dean Morgen

Angelina Jolie & Megan Fox

Keira Knightley & Natalie Portman

Dear John Trailer Online

There's a new trailer online! It's from a movie called Dear John. It stars Channing Tatum, of whom I think he isn't the best actor in the world but he can be very dreamy, and Amanda Seyfriend, whom I absolutely love! I thought her amazing in Mamma Mia! and I can't wait to see her in this one. It's a story about two young lovers who get split up due to the Iraq war but keep corresponding through letters. It’s an adaption of a Nicholas Sparks novel (yes that is the guy who wrote the notebook), which means lots of women are going to love it.

Grey's Anatomy

So, here in Holland we are a bit behind on Grey's Anatomy. To keep things exciting, our channel decided to stop with Grey's in the middle of season 5. (We were all very, very upset) So now they finally started airing again 2/3 weeks ago and we finally reached the episode "Elevator Love" last night. Omg was that a good episode! Sorry I just have to write about it. Alex had, I think, his best scene ever when he was throwing it all out to Meredith. (but I've always loved the Mer/Alex scenes) And finally! The proposal! It was just perfect, sure the roses and stuff on her bed was great too, but this was way more Grey's Anatomy. Bailey was the hero in this episode: shussing the obnoxious know-it-all who was disturbing Derek and telling the residents to behave better to Izzie. This episode had everything I've been missing, everyone had a story and there were many problems. I totally forgot to mention poor McArmy and Christina!

Don't post any spoilers! ;) Seeya

Three Days of the Condor

Here's a golden movie tip for everyone: "Three Days Of Condor"
Robert Redford stars as the every day man Turner who works for the CIA reading books and postulating possible scenarios that could be applied to inteligence work. The story begins quietly, just every day life. He goes to work on his bicycle in the rain and is late. But then he goes out to get lunch and when he returns everyone at the center has been killed. Even though we saw it happening, we still feel his horror when he finds his coworkers dead. The tension never lets up in this grim, exciting tale, as Turner discovers he can trust no one, and barely survives assassination attempts, again and again.

The message? Knowledge is power. He's not just an every day man. He's the hero any of us could be. He is so believable that everything he accomplishes seems all the more impressive. He stays ahead of the game -just barely- using his intellegence.

I watched it because it seemed like a nice story, and I love thrillers, but mostly because of Robert Redford. I like him in well, every movie. In this movie he was fantastic. The scenes between him and the assassin are done beautifully. When they are together in the elevator the tension reaches its top and it feels like you're trapped there with them.

So I know what you'll be watching tonight :) Have fun!

My New Addiction: The West Wing

I don't know if you bloggers ever heard of this magnificent show called The West Wing. If you haven't, shame on you! (although I only recently discovered it too)
It's a TV show with seven seasons. It follows the ups and downs of events in the West Wing of the White House. It follows several characters, like the president, chief and deputy chief of staff, press secretary and communications directors. It sounds extremely boring and intense, but I think it's one of the best drama shows that those Americans have ever made. (it's a tie with Gilmore Girls in my list) There's really no way to describe the show except as excellent and superb. Just trust me and watch it.

(I am on tv.com and saw this about the west wing: http://www.tv.com/story/18688.html?tag=hotspot;gumball;1 )

The Princess and the Frog

This new Disney movie definitely interests me. I'm a disney fan by heart, and this looks like another classic.

The story It's a fairy tale centered on a young girl named Princess Tiana who lives in New Orleans' French Quarter during the Jazz Age.

It has voices by a pretty impressive cast including voices of: John Goodman, Oprah Winfrey and Anika Noni Rose. Finally Disney found it's roots again!

You can watch the trailer here:

New Twilight Posters

Let me just make clear to everyone who visits this blog that I am not a twilight fan. I think Kristen Stewart plays Bella with absolutely no depth, like she only has one expression. Bella always seems mopey and depressed. I certainly don't understand why every guy would chase her, even the beautiful Robert Pattinson (Edward). But then again, Edward explains to us that her scent is intoxicating for him. On her character poster however she does look like someone worth chasing (photoshopped to perfection and all). Here are the posters:

Introducing the film fanatic

Hey to all you bloggers,

I'm new to this whole blogospere, but since I'm such a movie and tv fanatic, I figured I could try out my own blog. I write in English, but I'm from the Netherlands. I live in Rozendaal to be exact, look it up on google maps. I'm sure you will notice that yes, it is practically the smallest town in Holland. We have zero shops and traffic lights. We do however have a castle! (there's no logic in it)

On this blog I will be posting movie reviews, movie websites, movie news and I will bore you with my talk about TV shows.

Bye y'all,
Justine
